On the other hand, the Extended Degree Programme (EDP) gives students the flexibility to take fewer credits per semester, extending the timeline by up to two semesters. For those who may need breaks, UGC has also introduced multiple entry and exit options, enabling students to pause and resume their studies as needed.

Will the exams or degrees be any different?
The exams for ADP and EDP students will remain the same as those for standard three- or four-year UG programs. However, the degrees will include a note confirming that the academic requirements for a standard program were met in a shorter or extended duration. Government departments, private organizations, and recruiting agencies are expected to treat ADP and EDP degrees on par with standard degrees. For students opting for ADP or EDP, completing the required credits in a four-year UG program with honors will qualify them for an honors degree.
When will the options kick in, and how will institutions prepare?
ADP and EDP options will be available starting in the 2025-26 academic year, beginning with the July-August session. Institutions will have the autonomy to decide whether to offer these programs. They may offer courses in online or hybrid modes, leveraging UGC’s approval for up to 40% online courses. This flexibility will allow ADP or EDP students to take additional or fewer credits without disrupting regular schedules. Extra classes may be scheduled outside of standard hours to accommodate ADP students, providing flexibility for those with compressed timelines.
Institutions can also allow ADP students to enroll in advanced or specialized courses, including postgraduate or advanced undergraduate courses, to efficiently fulfill credit requirements. Micro-credentials and skill-based programs can be introduced, enabling students to accumulate credits at their convenience. Additionally, institutions may introduce inter-semester terms (like summer or winter) for ADP students to take additional courses without interfering with the regular semester structure. Students can also take electives or core courses from different departments, offering greater flexibility in managing their credits.
